Bruce Reed got his start with the ice cream business in the 1950s, when, as a child, he helped out his parents at their diner, Jerry's Curb Service, in Bridgewater, Pennsylvania, a small town located 27 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.^[2] It was through this experience that Reed would learn from his dad the secrets to the restaurant business.

In 1989, Reed decided to open an ice-cream shop right next door to Jerry's, which he first operated under a franchise from Handel's Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt. However, after 15 months in the business, Reed dropped this Handel's franchise and began operating under the Bruster's name.

Bruster's also began franchising and has outlets in Alabama, Arizona, Southern California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Guyana, and recently in South Korea as well. Bruster's remains headquartered in Bridgewater.

The variety of flavors offered compare to no where else. Ice cream is made fresh daily in house and flavors are rotated weekly as well as offering special seasonal flavors. Bruster's Real Ice Cream is made the old-fashioned way, with slow kettle processing designed specifically to create the Bruster's flavor, starting with a proprietary homestyle mix delivered fresh from its dairy to each store. It's a process that simply makes Bruster's A Scoop Above The Rest.

My favorite so far is called Graham Central Station- Graham Ice Cream with Graham Cracker Swirl and Chocolate Flakes. Besides that, Wedding Cake is the perfect marriage of sweet and a tiny bit tart with a blackberry swirl, a pleasant surprise with every lick! I love the flavor variety here. Combinations of ingredients make for specialty flavors I've never seen before at any other ice cream shop in the area.

You can enjoy a scoop (or more) in a cup.... However, Bruster's also includes crunchy handmade waffle cones, customized sundaes, candy-filled blasts and thick milkshakes on their menu. Bruster's also offers customized cakes and pies in your favorite flavor for every occasion.

Amongst all the delicious flavors and tempting desserts off the menu, the location is absolutely immaculate. Not only that, but the staff is friendly, helpful and happy! I mean who wouldn't be happy when ice cream is involved.
